Ryan Gosling, who recently took on the iconic role of Ken in the upcoming Barbie movie, has revealed that his daughters, Esmerelda and Amada, aged 9 and 7 respectively, haven't seen the film yet, Eonline reports. Speaking exclusively to E! News at the 2024 Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Gosling expressed uncertainty about the appropriate age for his daughters to witness him as Ken, stating, “I don't know if you should watch your father as Ken. I don't know what age is a good age to see your father do that. It gets pretty crazy.”

Although the girls haven't seen the full movie, they did get a behind-the-scenes look when they visited Gosling on set. The actor mentioned, “They've seen little parts of it, and they came to set one day when I did a big musical number.” Gosling's decision to take on the role was influenced by his daughters' love for Barbie, noting that initially, they showed interest in the dolls but not Ken.

“I knew that they loved it because they kept saying at first, ‘Hey, can we go to Target?'” Gosling recalled. “And we go to Target, and then they'd slowly go by the Barbie aisle. And my wife and I sort of realized, ‘OK, I think it's time to let them have Barbies.' And no interest in Ken, which was pretty interesting, too.”

Ryan Gosling had previously shared insights into his daughters' intricate Barbie play, revealing that each doll has its own name, complicated life stories, and interrelationships. The actor humorously pointed out that keeping track of the dolls' elaborate narratives is a challenge, with scenarios like estranged relationships and specific job roles for Ken at the grocery store.
