Patrick Mahomes is calling plays on and off the field. The NFL quarterback explained why he “takes some credit” for the romance between teammate Travis Kelce and his girlfriend Taylor Swift.

“I like to take some of the credit because I was the one who invited Travis to his first Taylor concert when [he brought] the friendship bracelet,” Mahomes recounted during his appearance on the Pat McAfee Show.“He was sitting in my suite, so I feel like I was the matchmaker.”

“I feel like I had some input there, as well. I was like, ‘Dude, you should go for it.’ And you know Travis, man, he does it … and I’m glad it’s all worked out,” he added.

While Taylor Swift was not able to meet with Travis Kelce before the show like he had wanted and infamously made a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it, they still were able to make their relationship work.

“This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell,” Swift told TIME in her 2023 TIME Person of the Year profile, referring to Kelce's not-so-subtle shoutout about not being able to meet with her. We started hanging out right after that. So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for because we got to get to know each other.”

The two have been going strong ever since and confirmed their relationship when Swift attended a Kansas City Chiefs game in September. She went to 13 games over the course of the season, including the Super Bowl, where the Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers.

Some fans were negative towards Swift's appearances at the games noting that sportscasters spoke about her often and the camera projected her on the screen many times during the games. The “So High School” singer spoke about the “Brads and Chads” complaining about her attendance in the profile as well.

“I’m just there to support Travis,” Swift said. “I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”

“When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care,” she told the publication.

“The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone,” she added. “We’re just proud of each other.”

However, Kelce spoke on the fans that were showing Swift love as he overshadowed the naysayers.

“I'll say this, they showed Taylor at the game and you don’t see an entire home team fanbase go insane for somebody wearing the opposite team’s colors,” Travis gushed on his “New Heights” podcast with brother Jason Kelce about the Chiefs' game against the Patriots back in December. “Just shows you how amazing that girl is.”

“They went absolutely insane when they showed Taylor on the screen. … Might have been a few Brads and Chads that were booing, but for the most part, everybody was f—king screaming at Taylor,” Travis continued. “I was trying to keep it cool, I was like, ‘Don’t show your cards.'”

Kelce also has been doing his part as well supporting Swift during her Eras Tour. He's been overseas several time with the pop star with his last concert appearance in Paris earlier this month.
