As Washington Wizards center Dwight Howard faces an out-of-the-blue controversy that involves allegations coming from a man named Masin Elije who claims to be his ex-boyfriend, the Twitterverse is showing its poor side.
Fortunately, there are those who have opted to take the high road and not easily buy into the accusations based on a series of tweets. This is not to dismiss everything, though, but a reminder to keep an objective approach and not be swayed by the popular but questionable opinion from the masses.
The breaking news about this should be that Dwight Howard, a man in a position of power, harassed and stalked this person. NOT that he’s into transgender people. https://t.co/rOPYxcF6Yu

My tweet about Dwight's normalcy did not age well. This is true. But it wasn't because he's not normal. There is no normal anymore. Before you crack all your jokes, recognize that a real person was, and is, being hurt here. Take a second to give that a thought first. Good night.

This Dwight Howard situation is yet another example of this guilty before proven innocent shit I hate about social media. Accusations doesn't mean it actually happened. How is that an unpopular sentiment?

These modern-day Twitter heroes could not be more right. Dwight Howard's sexual orientation isn't the real issue here but the fact that these grave accusations are being directed his way.
For a moment, let's consider quickly: what if these stories are true? That would be a problem not only for the Wizards big man, but it also begs the question of how prevalent is this today as popular personalities do have the resources and leverage to commit similar acts. It has happened several times before outside of basketball.
Then again, such individuals are also surrounded by people with motives and agendas that could transform into bribes.
All eyes are now on Dwight Howard's camp. These allegations will soon have their actual judgment — the one that matters. But as basketball fans, the hope is for Dwight Howard to return in top shape and help the Wizards' sinking ship before it's too late.
