Washington Wizards newly-named general manager Tommy Sheppard has a plan for this team in the wake of his promotion to a full-fledged position in the front office. The longtime executive carried that vision from the time he was given the green light to run basketball operations on an interim basis, drafting guys that are proven winners who have had enough collegiate experience to be impactful at the NBA level right away.

Sheppard is hoping to see his players compete at both ends of the floor, a free-flowing offense and an intensity that carries from one end to the court to the other, a style so attractive that other players see the Wizards as a destination.

“I love seeing the ball move. I love seeing athletic players come to play the game uninhibited. I don’t like guys who jam up the game. I don’t like the ball sticking,” said Sheppard, according to Fred Katz of The Athletic. “I love guys that play both ends, high intensity but that are great teammates and have high character. And I think that’s something that resonates. That helps you recruit. Every year, I think it keeps you relevant.”

Sheppard kept his franchise star Bradley Beal plugged in throughout free agency and the NBA Draft, selecting Rui Hachimura out of Gonzaga and Admiral Schofield out of Tennessee — two proven winners in college. He traded Dwight Howard, re-signed Thomas Bryant, and added Isaiah Thomas to fill in the void at point guard — moves he's hoping will help him put that vision to work in the upcoming season.
