For the first time ever, the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) will finally be featured in a video game.

Owen Good of Polygon announced that EA Sports will be returning with their NBA Live video game series by releasing its first installment for the current-gen consoles and PC with NBA Live 18, which will feature all 12 WNBA teams and all its players from the most recent season.

EA Sports senior producer, Mike Mahar, had this to say about the WNBA's inclusion into their latest NBA Live title:

“It’s a great partnership and it expands the options available in the product, and it’s the stepping stone to, probably, some cool implementations with female characters going forward in the game… Future iterations on how they will appear in the product, that will be added later.”

This is great news for WNBA fans, who have long been clamoring for their favorite superstars to make it in a video-gaming platform. EA Sports, whose NBA Live series hasn't been met with great reception ever since rival video game publisher 2K Sports garnered most of the commercial and critical success for the past several years with its NBA 2K series, will also benefit greatly from the exclusive partnership with the WNBA.
