Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese is starting her WNBA career with a bang. Reese put on a solid performance against the Dallas Wings on May 18th and helped the Sky to their first win of the 2024 season. Moreover, Reese is crossing over into the soccer universe with a move on a Washington D.C.-based club.

Reese, a Maryland native, is part of the ownership group for new professional women's soccer team DC Power FC, per ESPN. The club is one of eight teams that will compete in the inaugural season of the USL Super League, which kicks off in August.

Reese gave a hopeful statement on her move to become one of the founding owners of the club.

“I want to help grow women's sports and elevate female athletes across the board,” Reese said. “We're taking over, and I'm honored to be able to support Power FC and invest in women's soccer in the DMV (District, Maryland, Virginia) community.”

Reese further displayed her enthusiasm for the move in a follow-up social media post.

“So grateful and blessed for this new ownership! Looking forward to creating new opportunities for women in professional soccer. I've always had a desire to invest in a local team as a Maryland native,” Reese wrote on X.

U.S. Soccer granted the USL Super League first division sanctioning earlier in 2024. Thus, the new league was put in the same tier as the National Women's Soccer League. DC Power FC is working in partnership with MLS side D.C. United.

Angel Reese was the first individual formally announced as one of the owners of the new club. The star rookie will not be taking the soccer field anytime soon, but she is ecstatic to be able to support DC Power FC and help propel more opportunities for professional women's soccer players.

Angel Reese looks to continue momentum amid Chicago Sky start

Reese's WNBA debut was challenging, but she put forth a commendable effort. Reese amassed 12 points and eight rebounds in an 87-79 May 15th loss to the Dallas Wings. Her glaring weakness occurred at the free-throw line. She shot just 2-for-8 at the stripe. However, she improved in her second game.

Chicago faced the Wings again on May 18th in another tough matchup. The Sky trailed by as many as 12 points, but Reese's contributions helped the team rally and win 83-74. The 6'3″ forward finished the night with 11 points, nine rebounds, and two assists, and went 5-for-7 on free throws.

Reese gives the Sky an interior boost on both sides of the ball, and she will continue to get better as time goes on. Moreover, Reese will get fellow WNBA Draft lottery pick and frontcourt member Kamilla Cardoso back in action shortly.

Cardoso missed the start of the season after injuring her shoulder in Chicago's first preseason game against the Minnesota Lynx. However, the former South Carolina center is targeting a June 1st return, which was confirmed by Teresa Weatherspoon after practice on Tuesday.

Things look bright for Angel Reese amid her endeavors on and off the court. It will be fun to continue to watch her grow in business and basketball.
