When Jordynne Grace passed through the Forbidden Door to throw down a challenge for Roxanne Perez ahead of NXT Battleground in Las Vegas, it made waves in two very different promotions at the same time.
Was this a one-off opportunity, with WWE booking Grace in a clear hat tip to their future desire to make her a WWE Superstar? Or is this the start of something bigger, better, and more fantastical, with all sorts of different dream matches ranging from The Rascalz versus New Day or even AJ Styles making his long-awaited return to the Impact Zone to wrestle someone like Josh Alexander, Moose, or Eddie Edwards?
Discussing her arrival in NXT and what it could mean for her future in a special appearance on Busted Open Radio, Grace noted that she's got more than one WWE performer on her in-ring wish list, with the “BOAT” a dream match at this point in her career.
“I'm still waiting for Natalya to come over,” Jordynne Grace said via WrestleZone. “That's one of my dream matches. She's someone I watched growing up, and she's never really been outside of WWE for the past two decades. She's a pioneer, and I want to wrestle her in TNA.”
Whoa, Grace versus Natalya in TNA? Well, considering Neidhart hasn't wrestled a match outside of WWE in well over a decade, it would be incredible to see her show up elsewhere, and it could even help to revitalize interest in her style of technical wrestling that has grown stale among fans within the WWE Universe. Fortunately, Busted Open Radio host Tommy Dreamer has an idea of how to bring some NXT talent over to TNA for a fun little crossover experience, suggesting that Grace should actually defeat Perez in their match in order to bring the “Prodigy” and maybe some friends over to the Impact Zone.
“Stevie Turner's saying she's cutting her teeth on their digital show trying to make a name for herself. I thought she did excellent in her promo trying to, you know, get a foot in the door with the boss. Also, why is Robert Stone always hanging out next to Ava? There's something brewing. We all know we can't trust Mr. Stone ever, so Ava watch your back, you have a very toxic, parasitic person who's trying to slit your throat and take your job while he's standing next to you,” Tommy Dreamer noted via Wrestling Inc. “I would love to see some kind of shock and awe, get people talking, why not? If Jordynne were to show up and defeat Roxanne Perez, and now is your NXT and TNA World Champion, and now Roxane Perez gets her rematch and shows up on TNA television and is able to win back her championship, I don't see anything wrong with that.”
Would it be cool to see a proper crossover between TNA and NXT in the same way the former promotion did in their Multiverse series of events with New Japan Pro Wrestling? Most definitely, as there are simply too many interesting potential matchups for HBK and company not to explore moving forward.
Jordynne Grace and Ethan Page had a Spiderman meme moment.
Elsewhere on Busted Open Radio, Jordynne Grace revealed how she learned that Ethan Page was also debuting in NXT on the very same show, noting that the duo ran into each other at the hotel gym and discovered that they were about to have a very similar experience at the Performance Center a few hours later.
“Let me tell you a funny story about Ethan Page, we're actually good friends. We're in a group chat, we talk every single day,” Jordynne Grace explained via Wrestling Inc. “I had no idea he was going to be there until I went down to the hotel gym that morning, and he was in there, and I was like, ‘What are you doing here?' And he turns around and he's like in full panic mode. The first thing he said to me was, ‘Please don't ruin this for me,' and I was like, ‘What?' And then he told me that he was debuting, and I was like, ‘Dude, so am I.' So that was pretty cool.”
On one hand, good on Grace and Page for keeping their debuts secret from each other, as that must have been tricky to do, considering how much their careers were about to change. Still, in the end, the duo were both able to elevate their stock in front of a brand-new audience and became the talk of the IWC for their efforts as a result. All in all, that's what really matters, even if they both had to hide it for one reason or another.
