WWE has apparently released Toni Storm from her contract, Fightful Select reports.

As if they haven't released enough star power yet this year, WWE releases yet another talented superstar from their roster. However, it seems that Toni Storm asked for her release herself. In a follow-up tweet, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select notes: “Those that I spoke to within WWE believe Toni Storm asked for her release from the company.” He also noted that the memo didn't mention budget cuts – something that was shared by the company explicitly as a reason behind firings.

Toni Storm is a one-time NXT UK Women's Champion, a title she held for 231 days. Outside of WWE, the New Zealander also worked in the UK with Progress Wrestling, as well as in Japan with Stardom, where she holds the record for the longest reign for the SWA World Championship at 612 days. Upon being elevated to WWE's main roster, Storm shared to Ryan Satin on WWE Fox's Out of Character program that she felt a lack of opportunity for her in SmackDown. Her frustrated attempts to win the SmackDown Women's Championship belt from Charlotte Flair in recent weeks may have contributed to her decision to leave the company.

As of press time, WWE has not yet released an official statement on Storm's release. She still remains part of the SmackDown roster on the WWE website.
