The WWE is the largest professional wrestling promotion in the world. However, the company announced that Russia is being excluded from its broadcasts.

Sportscaster Jon Alba tweeted the WWE's statement Thursday morning.

“WWE has terminated its partnership with Russian broadcaster Match and shut down WWE Network in Russia effective immediately,”

According to the release, the promotion shut down WWE Network in Russia and ended its partnership with Russian broadcaster Match.

The second part of the statement provided more details into the decision.

“The move eliminates access in Russia to any WWE programming, including the company’s weekly Raw, SmackDown and NXT shows, its on-demand library, and all of its premium live events, including WrestleMania 38.”

The business move is similar to that of many other large sports companies. The NHL suspended its ties with Russian business partners and paused their Russian language social and digital media sites. Meanwhile, FIFA banned Russia from competing in the 2022 World Cup.

All of these moves are boycotts and protests in an attempt to stop Russia's attacks on Ukraine. Russia, under the leadership of President Vladimir Putin, first invaded Ukraine on February 24, forcing Ukrainians to either flee or fight back.

The WWE is preparing for WrestleMania 38, which will begin on April 2. The much-anticipated event will feature CEO Vince McMahon's return to the ring.
