The New York Yankees are hastily getting prepared for Opening Day in less than one month's time after the MLB lockout finally came to an end in March. While the Yankees will be able to get back out onto the field for the 2022 season, manager Aaron Boone dropped a worrying revelation ahead of the season. Boone revealed that there are still “a few guys at least” who remain unvaccinated, which could impede their ability to play games in Canada, via Bryan Hoch.

This is, of course, a significant issue for the club, who are divisions rivals with the Toronto Blue Jays and will thus be in Canada multiple times throughout the season. If the vaccination status of those unnamed players remains unchanged, they won't be available to play against the Blue Jays, due to Canada's COVID-19 travel regulations.

Boone did not specify what players are unvaccinated, but the fact that he described the number as being “a few guys at least” is particularly concerning. The Yankees are hoping to make it back to the World Series after more than a decade-long drought but would be crippling themselves by having players unavailable for crucial matches in Toronto.

The Blue Jays are emerging as one of the best teams in baseball, too, so taking them on in Toronto won't be an easy task, especially without the full roster at Boone's disposal.

Last season, the Yankees finished tied for second place in the AL East at 92-70 but were eliminated in the Wild Card by the rival Boston Red Sox. The team is hoping to fare better this time around, but with the MLB season only back a few days, the Yankees have already been hit with some worrying news.
