The New York Yankees have been linked to Carlos Correa throughout the MLB offseason. They had needed a shortstop and they placed a call about the 27-year-old star. Ultimately, he decided to join the Minnesota Twins in a shocking move. New York had spent last season going through several shortstop options, none of which paid off.

Although the Yankees acquired Isiah Kiner-Falefa in a previous trade with the Twins, he is not destined to play shortstop. Trevor Story, a two-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger, is still up for grabs and the Bronx Bombers want him.

MLB Network's Jon Heyman speculates that the Yankees are one off the teams, along with the Houston Astros, that “have an edge” in the pursuit of Story. He added that the Yankees prefer the Colorado Rockies star and that they were ever close to getting Correa.

Story's desire to play shortstop is key, as other teams who are in on him, such as the Boston Red Sox and San Francisco Giants already have stars at the six spot. The Astros, of course, are also in need of a shortstop after losing Correa. The reigning AL champs have a very good team in place.

The Yankees have a strong team, too. Story would be able to play shortstop while Kiner-Falefa is used elsewhere. His defense, base stealing and hitting would make for a very good addition to the lineup. Alongside Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Josh Donaldson, he would help the Yankees add even more offense and some desperately needed defense.
