Why The Yankees Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Yankees have finally lived up to their famous nickname, “The Bronx Bombers,” as they have been explosive on offense all season. New York ranks ninth in batting average and fourth in on-base percentage. The Yankees are also second in runs and home runs while ranking third in slugging percentage.

Anthony Volpe is the leadoff hitter. However, he will need to do much better than he has done in the past, as he is batting just .197 with 13 hits, two home runs, three RBIs, and six runs over 18 games against the Blue Jays. Juan Soto is a power threat. Significantly, he is hitting .289 with 13 hits, three home runs, 11 RBIs, and 12 runs over 14 games against the Jays in his career. Aaron Judge can slug the baseball and loves facing the Jays. So far, he is batting .286 with 115 hits, 35 home runs, 74 RBIs, and 71 runs over 113 games against Toronto. Giancarlo Stanton still has some power. He is hitting .246 with 64 hits, 22 home runs, 51 RBIs, and 39 runs over 70 games against the Blue Jays in his career.

Pitching has been elite this season for the Yankees. Currently, they are second in team ERA. But the relievers have slipped over the last two months after being the best bullpen in baseball in April. Ultimately, their relievers rank sixth in team ERA.

The Yankees will cover the spread if they can batter the baseball and make Berrios work harder for his outs. Then, they need Rodon to fool these hitters into swinging at bad pitches.

Why The Blue Jays Will Cover The Spread/Win

The offense has been pitiful this season despite having some well-known players who can make some waves. Substantially, the Jays are just 22nd in batting average and 16th in on-base percentage. Toronto is also 26th in runs, 27th in home runs, and 23rd in slugging percentage.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is still a threat to slug the baseball. Ultimately, he is batting .274 with 84 hits, 16 home runs, 53 RBIs, and 32 runs over 82 games against the Yankees in his career. Bo Bichette is still a threat at the plate. He is hitting .378 with 56 hits, eight home runs, 28 RBIs, and 27 runs over 38 games against the Yanks in his career. George Springer is not the hitter he once was. Regardless, he has done well against the Yankees, batting .302 with 19 hits, four home runs, nine RBIs, and nine runs over 17 games against the Yankees.

Pitching has been an issue in Toronto this season. Significantly, they are 22nd in team ERA. The Jays have also struggled to hold games. Moreover, their bullpen ranks just 25th in team ERA.

The Blue Jays will cover the spread if Berrios can get out of the first few innings with limited or no damage. Then, they need to take the lead first.

Final Yankees-Blue Jays Prediction & Pick

The Blue Jays took two of three from the Yankees at Rogers Centre. Then, the Yankees took two of three against the Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium. Both pitchers are solid. Yet, the Jays play significantly better at home. This seems like a game that can go down to the wire. However, Berrios does not like facing the Yankees. His numbers against them are worrisome. Therefore, we expect the Yankees to pummel him again. The Yankees cover the spread.
