The NFL trade deadline is approaching fast. On November 2nd, all trades must be completed. Let's take a look at two trades the Los Angeles Chargers must make to improve its roster ahead of the deadline.

The Chargers started off the season playing very well through Week 7. They sit at 4-2 and lead the AFC West division. They are currently in a bye week, so this is a perfect time for the management to go out and acquire more help. The Bolts are in need of some defensive help. The offense is playing well and scoring points, (besides last week against the Ravens), so a trade for a top-tier defensive tackle and a running-stopping linebacker should propel them to the top.

There are a handful of players that they could go out and get, but two stick out the most.

Before we mention the names, we must go back through history. There have been just a handful of times where the Chargers have gone out and traded for a player midseason. It is extremely rare for them, they just don't trade for anyone. Since Tom Telesco started as a GM for the Chargers, he's only made two trades during the season. He traded away Desmond King to the Tennessee Titans in 2020, and Dontrelle Inman to the Chicago Bears in 2017. He has yet to trade for a player during his tenure.

With that being said, let's take a look at the two players he must trade for prior to the NFL trade deadline.

Best Chargers Trades Before 2021 NFL Trade Deadline

2. Javon Hargrave, DT: Philadelphia Eagles

Javon Hargrave is playing like one of the best defensive linemen in all of football this season. He currently leads everyone in pass rush win-rate according to Next-Gen stats. He is playing elite football, but it is for a 1-5 team.

The Eagles are not going anywhere this season. If they were smart, they would trade him while his value is at his highest. Hargrave has six sacks and one forced fumble to go along with his 16 solo tackles on the year.

The Chargers are in desperate need of a defensive tackle. Justin Jones has been out for most of the year with an injury and is still on the IR. They are missing him badly. Former pro-bowler Linval Joseph is playing well with 12 tackles, but with only one sack.

Meanwhile, 2019 first-round pick Jerry Tillery is not playing to his expectations. Tillery is hurting the Chargers' defense right now. Hargrave should come right in and turn things around. Linemen are having difficulties blocking him, and that is what the Chargers need to go alongside Joey Bosa. The Bolts don’t have Melvin Ingram any longer, so they need someone else to step up in a major way.

1. Zach Cunningham, LB: Houston Texans

It is reported that the Houston Texans will be sellers at the trade deadline.

Zade Cunningham led the NFL in total tackles last season with 164 (106 solo). There is no one better to come in and fix this horrible run-stopping defense. The Chargers rank dead-last in rush yards conceded. At just under 1,000 at 975, they  have given up over 100 more rush yards than the Texans themselves.

Cunningham isn't fixing the problems in Houston, well because that defense as a whole isn't great. For the Bolts, they do display some playmakers that really disrupt the passing game. Derwin James Jr. is one of the best defensive players in the league, and he alongside Chris Harris Jr., Asante Samuel Jr., and Joey Bosa should lead to better performances.

If the Chargers bring in Cunningham, then they have an elite tackler who has a nose for the ball. Los Angeles' two starting linebackers are currently out with injuries, so this is the best time to pull the trigger. In the meantime, the Bolts are getting excellent play from linebacker Kyzir White. He picked off Lamar Jackson twice last Sunday even though they got blown out.

Cunningham would add to a solid linebacker core when they are all fully healthy.
