With a nice little run to the NFC Championship Game, the Green Bay Packers draft pick fell a bit, and they will be selecting 30th overall. Even though the Packers had a lot of success during the 2019 season, this isn't a finished product, and there are a lot of improvements the team needs to make. Having the 30th pick, there could be teams trying to trade up to the end of the first round, and some of those deals could be tempting.
If the Packers decide to keep the pick, let's look at two perfect options for them to select.
Patrick Queen, Linebacker LSU
All signs are pointing towards the Packers moving on from Blake Martinez, which means they need to find his replacement this offseason. Martinez was a centerpiece the last few years for the Packers defense, and filling his shoes won't be easy.
The good news for the Packers is there are a couple of linebackers that could be available late in the first round that could make an impact immediately.
Patrick Queen has been a standout at LSU, and he has a game that will translate well to the next level. Queen is exceptional against the pass, and should be a three-down player. He is excellent in coverage against running backs, and he holds his own against tight ends.
He is a bit undersized, but he is physical and that makes up for some of the disadvantages with his height. There is a chance he could be gone before the Packers pick, but this is a guy that would be worth trading up for, as long as the team didn't have to give up too many assets.
Justin Jefferson
First priority for the Packers has to be a linebacker, but if the guys they like are gone, the team should look for a new toy for Aaron Rodgers.
This is a loaded draft class at wide receiver, and the fact that the Packers can get an impact player at the end of the first round is a real win. Justin Jefferson was a standout with Joe Burrow at LSU, and the biggest reason was his elite route running. He is great at varying his route tempo to keep the defense off-balance.
During the 2019 season, he caught 111 passes for 1,540 yards and 18 touchdowns. The Packers need more targets outside and Jefferson, or another one of the top receivers would make a whole lot of sense.
