The Houston Texans have quickly become one of the hottest teams in the NFL. Head coach DeMeco Ryans and QB CJ Stroud have turned the Texans into a contender in the AFC. The team earned its first playoff victory SINCE in 2023 and will look to exceed those expectations in 2024. Houston's front office has been hard at work ensuring that the Texans have all the firepower they need for a deep playoff run.

It starts in free agency. The Texans brought in Danielle Hunter on a monster contract to pair with Will Anderson. They also brought in several depth pieces in the secondary and retained some key contributors from 2023 in Dalton Schultz and Desmond King II.

The Texans made some solid selections in the 2024 NFL Draft as well. Houston selected both CB Kamari Lassiter and T Blake Fisher in the second round. They also added some nice mid-round players like safety Calen Bullock and tight end Cade Stover.

Houston also made some incredible trades to add veteran talent. They acquired Joe Mixon from the Bengals, Stefon Diggs from the Bills, and Ben Skowronek from the Rams.

The Texans have added a ton of talent, but there's still work to do. Here are three players who the Texans should consider signing at some point this offseason to provide depth at key positions.

Dalton Risner – G

Dalton Risner has been a solid guard during his time in the NFL.

He was a four-year starter with the Denver Broncos before heading to Minnesota for the 2023 season.

Risner may not be the most talented guard in the league, but he offers a solid level of play that makes him at worst a coveted backup. Houston is currently projected to start Kenyon Green and Shaq Mason at guard with very little behind them as depth. Risner could easily win a camp battle on this team.

The Texans would be wise to invest in Risner to protect CJ Stroud and help establish the ground game for Joe Mixon and Dameon Pierce. Risner is a capable run blocker but excels in pass protection, which should make him a coveted asset for Houston.

Calais Campbell – DT

You can easily recommend Calais Campbell for every team in the league.

The 37-year-old (!) veteran was a reliable player for the Falcons in 2023. He logged 56 total tackles, six and a half sacks, and a forced fumble for Atlanta.

The Texans currently have Foley Fatukasi, Denico Autry, Mario Edwards Jr., and Tim Settle as their top defensive tackles. None of these guys are tremendous pass rushers — not that Campbell necessarily is either, but he's solid — which could create some space for him on the roster.

Adding Campbell would put a veteran presence on the interior of the d-line and significantly raise the floor for this unit.

Quandre Diggs – S

Quandre Diggs is one of the most reliable safeties in the league. That may not be flashy, but it is a quality all its own.

The longtime Lion and Seahawk is your prototypical free safety. He excels in coverage and is a sure and willing tackler.

One of the most impressive traits that Diggs brings to the table is durability. Diggs has played more than 1,000 snaps every season since 2020. He has proven that he can handle a big workload and plays at a fairly high level.

The Seattle Seahawks cut Diggs in a cap savings move earlier this offseason. That should not be viewed as an indictment of Diggs' ability to play safety.

Aside from what Diggs brings on the field, he is also an asset off the field as a veteran. Signing Diggs would add a veteran free safety to the roster who could mentor young players like Jalen Pitre and Calen Bullock.

Diggs feels like a no-brainer signing for the Texans.
