Arizona State talent Marcus Ball has been forced to retire. This was due to a non-football related medical issue. He made the announcement on Twitter in what had to be a tough passage to write.

“I want to thank the Sun Devil fans as well as those who have supported my every decision I have made up until this point,” the defensive back wrote on Twitter. ”My health and family are first in my life, but I make it clear that Arizona State University has put me in a position as well it can do with others to succeed in life!”

Marcus Ball was diagnosed with epilepsy three years ago. Since then, the Arizona State linebacker has been dealing with what he described as “uncontrollable seizures.”

Hopefully the retirement from football helps, even if only slightly, with Ball retaining a better quality of life for his future. It is certainly sad that he no longer gets to play football, a sport he presumably loves, but at such a young age it is probably better for his future if he retires.

From a football perspective, this is a significant loss for Arizona State. Ball played in 32 games the past three seasons for the Sun Devils. That might not seem like a huge deal. However, his 64 total tackles last season were good for second on the team.

Here is to hoping Ball gets whatever treatment he needs to live a full life. Furthermore, that the quality of his life is at the best level possible given his condition.
