The Chicago Bears may have lost their season opener to the Green Bay Packers last Thursday, but it certainly wasn't because of their defense, as they held the Packers to 10 points in a seven-point loss.

Ahead of what is almost a must-win game for the Bears in Week 2 against the Denver Broncos this Sunday, defensive lineman Akiem Hicks said he thinks Chicago's defense is getting even better.

“I think our defense is and can be even more dominant,” Hicks said, via the Bears' official Twitter account. “We just have to prove it.”

For a defense that ranked third in yards allowed and first in points allowed last year, that's a tall task, but with a unit that includes Hicks, Khalil Mack, Leonard Floyd, Roquan Smith, and Eddie Jackson, I guess it's possible.

As for what Hicks thinks the Bears did well overall in Week 1? He isn't interested in discussing it, because Chicago didn't win the game.

“You can’t take a whole lot away from it because we still didn’t come away with the victory,” said Hicks. “So you look for every play you could’ve done just a little better. You look for every play you maybe missed your assignment that you’ve got to shore up your technique and play better. We’re not interested in moral victories here. We’re interested in playing good football.”

Hicks finished with two tackles and a sack in the loss and is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he registered 55 tackles, 7.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and five passes defended, en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.
