The Chicago Bears made defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi a priority in free agency and signed him to a three-year, $40.5 million deal. Unfortunately, the deal is now off after Ogunjobi failed his physical.

New Bears general manager Ryan Poles released this statement on the situation:

This is brutal for both the Bears and Ogunjobi. Chicago thought it had its new stud 3-technique on defense, which is getting a major overhaul with the departures of Khalil Mack and Eddie Goldman, among others, along with the expected exit of Akiem Hicks. Meanwhile, Ogunjobi was set to cash in after an excellent season with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Ogunjobi racked up a career-high 7.0 sacks in 16 games for the Bengals while also totaling 49 total tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 16 quarterback hits. He unfortunately injured his foot in the Wild Card Round against the Las Vegas Raiders and didn't play during the remainder of the run to the Super Bowl.

Still, the Bears were confident enough to sign Ogunjobi to a lucrative contract. Now, though, that deal isn't going through, and the assumption is it has something to do with that foot injury.

With Ogunjobi not in the fold, Chicago is signing Justin Jones to a two-year deal, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.  The defensive tackle had 3.0 sacks and 37 total tackles for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2021. While Jones isn't on the level of Ogunjobi, Poles worked quickly to scoop up a replacement.

Poles has a lot of work to do to fix the mess left behind by Ryan Pace.
