Back in March, the Chicago Bears traded for quarterback Nick Foles from the Jacksonville Jaguars. That immediately gave incumbent starter Mitchell Trubisky some legitimate competition for Matt Nagy to evaluate.
While both quarterbacks have their flaws and both struggled in 2019, they also have both proven in the past that they can be very good starters in the NFL. So the starting quarterback competition had officially begun with no real front runner.
We are now a few months removed from that trade, and no one still knows what the plan is at the position. It is still a toss up.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network on Twitter, we won't know any time soon either. Head coach Matt Nagy gave an update on the team's “starting quarterback” and it wasn't much of an update.
#Bears coach Matt Nagy tells reporters that he won’t publicly name a starting QB before the opener vs. the #Lions. So… game on.

Basically, Nagy told reporters to keep guessing. All he really did is keep everyone from expecting news at any moment. Now we all know that the starter will not be named publicly before their Week 1 opener against the Detroit Lions.
So while we still have to wait to find out, we at least don't have to constantly check to see if a decision was made.
What this does bring into question is, does Nagy already know, or is he trying to keep the Lions from game planning too much against the Bears?
At the same time, maybe he still is not sure. Nagy could be wanting to use the last few weeks to figure out who will help the Bears the most.
Whoever is chosen, it looks like they might not have the longest leash with the Bears.
