The Chicago Bears wrapped up a disappointing 2021 season with a loss against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Head Coach Matt Nagy's future with the franchise is less certain than ever, with rumors of his firing having been ever-present throughout the latter half of the season. Well, Nagy discussed his future in Chicago after Sunday's loss, indicating that he feels the organization is in a good place with a young franchise quarterback, via Sean Hammond.

Nagy believes that rookie quarterback Justin Fields is the future of the franchise and that he can lead the team to success going forward. Nagy couldn't resist adding that he and GM Ryan Pace were largely responsible for bringing Fields to Chicago, perhaps suggesting that he deserves a longer leash because of it.

Regardless of who brought Fields to Chicago and aided in his development, Nagy has certainly not done enough to warrant a return in 2022 in the eyes of Bears fans, who have been calling for his firing since the midway point of the season. If we're honest, Fields had a serviceable rookie season, but it was pretty underwhelming. He completed just 58.9% of his pass attempts for 1,870 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and 10 interceptions across 10 starts. He rushed 72 times for 420 yards and two touchdowns on the year, too.

Those numbers aren't terrible, but they certainly don't justify another season of Nagy at the helm in Chicago. If Nagy is banking on Fields' development to save his job, he may well find himself out of work sooner than later. Across four seasons with the Bears, Nagy has amassed a 34-31 record. After a strong 12-4 campaign in his first year at the helm, Chicago has missed the playoffs in each of the three subsequent seasons.
