Matt Nagy's tenure with the Chicago Bears came to an end this past week when he and general manager Ryan Pace were fired. One of the biggest failures of the Nagy-Pace era was the development, or lack thereof, of quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who was infamously selected ahead of star quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson in the 2017 draft. However, shocking details emerged on the relationship between Nagy and Trubisky that shed some light on why the partnership ultimately failed, via The Athletic.

After the 2019 season concluded, Trubisky prepared to meet with Nagy. They needed to have a conversation. How were they going to make this work? The quarterback prepared notes for the meeting. Nagy, though, didn’t make it — “He no-showed him,” a source said. Trubisky left his notes behind.

According to Adam Jahns and Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic, then Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky and head coach Matt Nagy were slated to meet after the 2019 season to discuss how the two could better work together.

Trubisky apparently prepared notes for the meeting but was left hanging by Nagy, who reportedly never showed. Are any Bears fans surprised that the partnership didn't amount to anything after hearing that? Sure, Trubisky didn't help himself with his play at times- and the Bears will never be able to live down the fact that they could have had Mahomes or Watson.

However, it sure sounds like part of the reason the that the Nagy-Trubisky partnership didn't work is because the former Bears head coach wasn't willing to make it so. And that's a shame.
