In the absence of starting quarterback Justin Fields, the Chicago Bears had to start rookie Tyson Bagent against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. Bagent led the Bears to a 30-12 win, their second victory of the season.

Bagent played pretty well in his first NFL start, completing 21 of 29 passes for 162 yards and also rushed for 24 yards with one passing touchdown. He finished the game with a 97.2 passer rating.

That performance, paired with Justin Fields still dealing with a thumb injury, means that the Bears will star Bagent again in Week 8 as they travel to Los Angeles to play the Chargers. Bagent's second NFL start will be primetime on Sunday night.

Bagent went undrafted this April after spending five seasons at Shepherd University, a Divison II program. He made the Bears' final roster after having a solid showing during the preseason and was initially the third string behind Fields and Nathan Peterman. He eventually surpassed Peterman and served as the Bears' backup QB for three games before taking over for Fields.

The Bears don’t expect to make the playoffs this season and instead are playing with house money when it comes to next year's draft. They will likely have two of the first five picks at their disposal, though if they keep winning with Tyson Bagent that might hurt their chances.

Justin Fields should remain Chicago's QB once he comes back from injury, but Tyson Bagent is making a strong case for himself as a solid backup or perhaps trade option for another team down the line.
