The Los Angeles Angels desperately need a win to avoid losing 15 in a row. It's time to continue our MLB odds series with a Red Sox-Angels prediction and pick.
These two teams are heading in completely opposite directions. The Red Sox (30-27) are looking for the 4-game sweep over the Angels (27-31) while the Halos are just trying to win a game. It's been 14 straight losses for the Angels who started out the season on fire. To make matters even more depressing, Mike Trout is banged up again and missed last night's game. It's a groin injury for the star who is just day-to-day right now. Let's see what happens in the late-night matchup.
Here are the Red Sox-Angels MLB odds, courtesy of FanDuel.

Why The Red Sox Could Cover The Spread
Boston is sending out right-hander Nick Pivetta. The 29-year-old is pitching well this season with a (5-4) record and 3.50 ERA in 61.2 innings pitched. He's found ways to pitch deep into games and threw a gem in his last putting against the struggling Oakland Athletics. Pivetta has only allowed a combined six runs in his allowed five starts, tallying 35 innings.
Article Continues BelowThe lineup for the Sox has been on a surge. Rafael Devers was arguably the best hitter in the month of May. His average is now at .342 on the year with 12 home runs and 31 RBIs. He has 80 hits on the year and 23 doubles. Xander Bogaerts is hitting .319 and J.D. Martinez .353 on the season. Martinez has missed time but his presence is known in the time he has played. With Trevor Story now finding his groove, this lineup has become one of the best in baseball.
The Red Sox are (31-26) against the spread this season.
Why The Angels Could Cover The Spread
Lucky enough for the Angels, superstar Shohei Ohtani is on the bump tonight. He hasn't pitched as well as he would have hoped but is still under the .400 mark … barley. His ERA is 3.99 in 47.1 innings on the year. His last outing wasn't great as he allowed four runs off of eight hits against the New York Yankees. This will be another very tough task against a strong AL East opponent.
The status of Mike Trout has not been updated. If he returns to the lineup tonight it would be a shocker as a groin is not something you mess with. However, the Halos need him in the lineup more than anything as they try and put runs on the board. In two games in this series, they failed to score even one run. Anthony Rendon remains on the 10-day IL. Luis Rengifo is on Paternity leave so the lineup could be very thin tonight. Ohtani will need to have a huge night pitching and hitting if the Halos want to win this game.
The Angels are (28-30) against the spread this season.
Final Red Sox-Angels Prediction & Pick
This should be a tough pick because I believe Ohtani will have a huge night to try and avoid the 15-game skid. However, the Sox are hitting the ball very well and Pivetta is showing his value this season. I think the under in this game is the best bet to make as the Sox have won by only one run in all three games.
Final Red Sox-Angels Prediction & Pick: Under 8 (-110)
