The Chicago White Sox host the Boston Red Sox in Game 2 of the 3-game series! It's time to continue our MLB odds series with a Red Sox-White Sox prediction and pick.
Boston is riding high right now after six straight wins. They took down the White Sox 16-3 last night after a huge game from JD Martinez. Trevor Story is also starting to catch fire and if this continues the Red Sox will keep on winning. The Sox are now (20-22) on the season, but after 6-straight wins the team might have started to find its rhythm.
The White Sox are disappointing this season. They sit even at 21 wins and 21 losses, but this team had high expectations going into the season. The good news for today is Lucas Giolito is on the bump for Chicago and he's been excellent in 31.2 innings pitched this year. The White Sox will face a veteran in Rich Hill so if they are able to attack the lefty, then the White Sox can get back in the win column.

Why The Red Sox Could Cover The Spread
Rich Hill will be making his 8th start of the season. In his third stint with the team, this is already the longest Hill has pitched for the Red Sox. He was primarily used as a reliever in Boston from 2010-13 and then again in 2015. This year, his ERA sits at 3.90 with 23 strikeouts and just eight walks. He didn't pitch great last time out against the Seattle Mariners, but if he can give them five solid innings then the Red Sox will have a chance to win tonight.
Article Continues BelowThe offense is hitting the ball extremely well this season. Martinez, Xander Bogaerts, and Rafael Devers are all smashing hitting well over .300 this season. Now that Story is hitting bombs again, this lineup could be the best in baseball when they are all hot.
The problem has been pitching. Chris Sale and James Paxton are ways away from pitching this season and the rotation doesn't have Edwardo Rodriquez anymore. It's been Hill, Michael Wacha, Nathan Eovaldi, and Nick Pivetta who have stepped up and tried to hold down the rotation. So far, they are in the middle of the pack at No. 14 in ERA at 3.79 overall as a team.
Hill will need to give them solid production tonight as the White Sox have a strong lineup as well. Becuase Giolito is on the bump for Chicago, the Red Sox must match them with their pitching tonight.
Why The White Sox Could Cover The Spread
Giolito is pitching well once again for the Sox. His ERA is at 2.82 in 31.2 innings pitched. He hasn't allowed more than three runs all season but he's only pitched more than six innings twice. This will be a tough game for him to go the distance because the Boston lineup is very hot right now. Giolito will be a huge factor for them tonight going up against an offense that scored 16 on them yesterday.
That obviously can't happen again. The pitching needs to step up for the White Sox. The bullpen hasn't pitched to expectations even though the White Sox as a team are third in saves with 15. A lot has to improve from that standpoint, but with Lance Lynn out for them, it's hard to get that production from anyone other than Giolito. However, Michael Kopech is healthy and is dominant right now. In 42 innings pitched, his ERA sits at 1.29 which is second in the AL. The problem is they have only managed to earn him one win. Once the Sox put it all together, they will be one of the toughest teams to beat in the AL.
If the White Sox want to cover this spread, they can not let the Boston lineup continue their hot run.
Final Red Sox-White Sox Prediction & Pick
The Red Sox are playing too well offensively to not bet on them tonight. Giolito is pitching well, but the White Sox haven't scored more than five runs in a game in a week.
Final Red Sox-White Sox Prediction & Pick: Boston Red Sox +1.5 (-154)
