Another edition of one of the greatest rivalries in all of sports is on tap for Saturday as the Boston Red Sox battle it out with the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Join us for our MLB odds series, where our Red Sox-Yankees prediction and pick will be revealed.
After a big-time grind-it-out 5-4 win over their arch nemesis on Saturday, the Red Sox can clinch the series victory with a repeat performance from less than 24 hours ago. With the Red Sox needing even more wins to guarantee themselves with a playoff spot come October, Boston will send righty Nick Pivetta to the rubber. The former Philadelphia is 8-6 with a 4.08 on the season.
Losing their fifth game in six tries, the Yankees have been hit with a drought right before the All-Star break in Los Angeles. Not to mention, but New York has now also been defeated by the Red Sox in three consecutive contests. Looking to change that trend, RHP Jameson Taillon will try to continue his stellar 2022 campaign by improving upon his 9-2 record which includes a 4.01 ERA.

Why The Red Sox Could Cover the Spread
There are few rivalries in sports that get the blood pumping quite like the Red Sox and Yankees. The two franchises that are located in the northeast have gone head-to-head countless times over the course of the past century and the love between the two sides remains just as non-existent all those years ago. With eleven more games still to be played between the two by the time the season wraps up in late September, this party is just getting started.
Article Continues BelowAlthough the Red Sox were able to take care of business on Friday, Boston had been scuffling of late. Prior to the extra-innings victory over the ‘Yanks, the Red Sox were sole owners of a four-game losing skid that saw the bats act as dead as a doornail. Nevertheless, Boston was able to snap out of that funk in a big way by scoring a pair of runs in the opening frame before adding on a couple extra in the later stages of the game.
While the offense was able to score as many runs on Friday as they did during the losing streak, Boston will be counting on pitcher Nick Pivetta to put the Red Sox in cruise control in this road matchup. In what is expected to be a high-scoring affair, the chances of Boston covering the spread on Saturday will increase dramatically if the right-handed hurler can keep the Yankees off balanced. In his last start against New York, Pivetta only last 3 1/3 innings while getting roughed up for six runs on eight hits.
Why The Yankees Could Cover the Spread
In rare form, are the Yankees in the midst of a dry spell? While it is certainly unavoidable for teams in the major leagues to not go through some sort of losing stretch over the course of a 162-game season, it may be slightly surprising that it is happening to a team that has appeared so dominant like New York. Even so, the amount of talent on this roster is more than capable of turning the page and making it a living hell for the opposition.
In order to come out victorious and cover the spread against their bitter rivals, the Yankees will need to be more consistent at the plate than what they showed yesterday. While New York showed their ability to score in waves by scoring three times in the third inning, they were blanked in the next five frames after that. Not to mention, but they also were only 2-15 with runners in scoring position and stranded an additional nine men on-base.
Overall, New York has showcased themselves as a top hitting squad all season long. The statistics suggest that the Yankees will come out with a little more firepower on Saturday as the Bronx Bombers are the highest scoring offense in the league and also possess top-two on-base and slugging percentages. With the colossal sluggers in Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton leading the way offensively, this Yankees unit is downright frightening to say the least.
Final Red Sox-Yankees Prediction & Pick
The Red Sox are 9-20 in their last 29 games against AL East opponents. This stat alone suggests that some fortunate bounces were in favor of Boston on Friday and second consecutive victory this evening may be tough to secure. Both starting pitchers struggled mightily when they faced off with one another last time, but Taillon has had the better overall campaign in comparison to Pivetta in 2022. With that being said, expect the Yankees losing ways to not continue for much longer as they have been nearly impossible to defeat with their 35-12 record in the Bronx.
Final Red Sox-Yankees Prediction & Pick: Yankees -1.5 (+115)
