The Buffalo Bills and Denver Broncos close out Week 10 of the 2023 NFL season. After this week, every team will be over halfway done with their seasons, and the playoff picture will begin to take shape. A handful of teams can count themselves as solid playoff locks, while a couple others are in full tank mode. Despite a hot start by the Bills and a slow one by the Broncos, neither one of these teams can count themselves entirely in or out.

They are both on opposite ends of the wide middle spectrum of the AFC. There are 10 teams within two games of each other in the AFC Wild Card race, so every game is critically important from here on out. A win for the Bills lets them keep pace with the three AFC North teams they sit a half-game behind. A win for the Broncos will shoot them up the AFC ladder and allow them to assert themselves into the playoff race for real. Here's how to watch Broncos-Bills.

Broncos storylines

Are the Broncos turning things around? Or is it too late for this season?

Horrific felt a little too kind to describe the Broncos‘ early-season struggles, highlighted by that 50-point loss to the Miami Dolphins. At 1-5, they looked dead and gone. Then they won two in a row, including a win over the Kansas City Chiefs. So what gives?

Well, looking closer at the Broncos' schedule and results, they were actually in every game except for that blowout. Sure, they didn't really put together a complete offensive and defensive performance until recently, but growth and progress were there, discounting the outlier.

Plus, the Broncos are coming off their bye and are healthy. Russell Wilson and Sean Payton have had more time together to jell. It would be an incredible story if they were able to insert themselves into the playoff picture after the start of their season. Consistency will be key on both sides of the ball. Buffalo will be the measuring stick to see if they have something special left in them.

Bills storylines

Buffalo actually finds itself in a stretch where they've lost three of their last five games after starting 3-1. They've struggled to find consistency offensively and defensively to stop good teams. Losses to the Jaguars and Bengals during this stretch specifically raise some questions about this team's ceiling.

The Bills have been the odd team out in the AFC the last few years. Between Kansas City, Cincinnati, and themselves, they've clearly been one of the three best teams in the AFC across the last few regular seasons. But the Bills haven't turned any of that regular-season success into a trip to the Super Bowl yet. And while they were a flashy pick to come out of the AFC this year, a loss here threatens to sink them into the depths of mediocrity.

Offensively, they remain great. Josh Allen continues to put up big numbers, even if he still turns the ball over a little more than Bills fans would hope. James Cook, supplemented by Allen and Latavious Murray, leads a solid run game. Their defense hasn't been bad either. Both their offense and defense are among the top five scoring units in the league.

The problem is consistency and closing out games they are supposed to win. The Broncos should be a good benchmark if they pull themselves out of their slump.
