The Buffalo Bills are in a precarious position after quarterback AJ McCarron suffered a fractured collarbone in preseason action against the Cleveland Browns this past week.

They now have just two active players at the position in Nate Peterman and rookie Josh Allen, who are both still vying to earn the starting job for the 2018 campaign. Per Mike Rodak of ESPN, head coach Sean McDermott acknowledged that the team may bring aboard another quarterback to have more security at the position.

There are many viable quarterbacks out on the free agent market this offseason that could step in to provide depth at the position that the Bills need to begin the year, including the likes of Colin Kaepernick, Matt Moore, Derek Anderson, Kellen Clemens, Ryan Mallet, and Mark Sanchez. It may not be the most talented group, but there are certainly several quarterbacks who can come in and fill that spot on the roster until McCarron is healthy.

The Bills may not feel compelled to add another quarterback and roll with their two on the roster, with both Peterman and Allen still competing for the starting job. This should at the very least ramp up the battle between them as they make their respective cases for the vaunted spot for the 2018 season.

In the meantime, the Bills still have a couple of weeks to make a decision on what direction they plan to head with their quarterback situation before they face the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1.
