Last Friday, the Buffalo Bills made the surprising move of acquiring wide receiver Jordan Matthews from the Philadelphia Eagles shortly after moving wideout Sammy Watkins to the Los Angeles Rams.

However, just a few minutes into his first practice with his new team, Matthews suffered a chest injury that may delay his debut, according to Mike Rodak of ESPN.

Jordan Matthews suffered a chip fracture in his sternum during his first practice with the Buffalo Bills and is considered week-to-week, the team announced Monday.

It is an unfortunate start to his tenure with the Bills that could see him miss the rest of the preseason so that he can recover and be at full strength once the regular season begins next month. Matthews is expected to take up a major role in the passing game as potentially the top receiving threat.

In his first three seasons with the Eagles, Matthews established himself as a reliable source of production. He is coming off a respectable 2016 campaign where he made 73 catches on 117 targets for 804 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 14 games played.

If Matthews is forced to miss any time, fellow offseason acquisition Anquan Boldin and rookie Zay Jones will likely assume larger responsibilities in the offense.
