The Buffalo Bills have finally decided on a starting quarterback. The Bills have officially named Nathan Peterman as their starter for Week 1 over rookie Josh Allen, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

It was speculated way back in June that Peterson was a “serious contender” for the Bills’ starting job, and he’s backed that up with his fine performances. He was by far the most impressive quarterback on the Bills this preseason. In three appearances, Peterman went 33-of-41 — a remarkable 80 percent completion percentage — for 432 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.

Rookie Josh Allen didn't perform nearly as well in preseason. The Bills also traded away veteran AJ McCarron to the Oakland Raiders over the weekend, which halved Peterson’s competition for the starting job.

Peterman, 24, was a fifth-round pick of the Bills during last year’s draft. He infamously put in a disastrous performance in his first-career NFL start as a rookie. He coughed up five interceptions in a 54-24 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. However, he has looked to have put that horrendous outing behind him en route to securing the starting job.

Peterman will now get the opportunity to play while prized rookie Allen sits and develops behind him. Although, he won’t have an easy opening slate to start the season. The Bills begin their campaign on the road against the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 9, one of five road games they will play in the first seven weeks. That includes tough trips to Minnesota and Green Bay in Weeks 3 and 4.
