Boston College and their football program started a tradition in 2014 that will bring goosebumps to anyone's arms.
On Saturday, BC is set to play on the road at UMass. For a few years now, they have honored the memory of Welles Crowther, who was lost on 9/11, by wearing red bandana inspired uniforms. They usually reserve a home game for this but with the 20-year anniversary of the tragic events falling on a Saturday this year, BC will be bringing them out now.
Welles Crowther was a Boston College graduate and on September 11, 2001, he helped many escape the collapsing World Trade Center towers after the attack on 9/11. He was known for his red bandana and some that were saved by him on that day recalled him wearing it. There's a full documentary that has come out about Crowther and his heroic acts that can be watched.
Usually BC holds the Red Bandana game later on in the year for one reason or another but this year they will take it to the road.
It's a tradition now that has become well known in the college football world and it serves as a great reminder to honor those who were lost on September 11, 2001. Welles Crowther will always be remembered as a hero and he is looked upon as such by not only the Boston College faithful, but everywhere else too.
