Errol Spence Jr.'s much-awaited bout with Manny Pacquiao had to be called off after the American boxer withdrew due to eye injury. Instead, the Filipino pride will be facing WBA Welterweight champion Yordenis Ugas in the August 21 bout in Las Vegas.

Clearly disappointed with the shocking turn of events, Spence took to Instagram to explain what really happened and why he needed to pull out of the fight. Earlier reports mentioned that he has a retinal tear in his left eye.

“I am very disappointed that I won’t be able to fight Manny Pacquiao on August 21st. Unfortunately , the doctors found a small tear in my eye and said I need to get surgery ASAP. There is no way I can fight with my eye in that condition I would like to apologize to everyone and thank you all for the support, You know I’ll be back soon, I’ve came back from worse,” Spence wrote.

For what it's worth, Manny Pacquiao has since reacted to the news and simply wished Errol Spence Jr. for a quick recovery.

It remains to be seen if there will be a chance for Spence and Pacman to fight again in the future. After all, Pacquiao's incoming fight could be his last considering that he's already 39 years old and has a political career to focus on in the Philippines.

As for Ugas, he has expressed his excitement to face Pacquiao and his determination to win the bout.

“It's an honor to fight the great multiple-division world champion, Manny Pacquiao, as I am more than ready to take on this challenge,” Ugas shared, per ESPN. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for Pacquiao, but I am coming to win this fight.
