The undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney and the former WBC and WBO super featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson have been going back and forth over contract disputes that ultimately led to Haney moving up in weight to take on Regis Prograis for the WBC super lightweight championship on December 9th.

Devin Haney recently spoke with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour discussing why the fight with Shakur Stevenson never happened.

“We presented the fight if he would have said yes to the offer I offered him, the fight would have been made.” said Haney. Helwani then asked about if there was any truth behind the 75/25 split rumor about the potential purse both Haney and Stevenson would have received if the fight happened. “The 25% would have been bigger than all of his fights put together he made. I think his ego made him say no and the people around him.”

Shakur Stevenson didn't take too lightly to these and clapped back at Devin Haney.

Right now both Stevenson and Haney are scheduled to fight before 2023 comes to a close. It is possible that we may see a Shakur Stevenson vs. Devin Haney fight in 2024 but only if there is an agreement on both sides in terms of the bottom line number. This certainly would be a highly anticipated matchup between two of the best young fighters in all of boxing.
