Why The Braves Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Braves have played the Mets already this season, but they lost two of three games. However, Atlanta heads into this series 10 games over .500. Their ability to hit is a big reason for that. The Braves are fourth in batting average, third in slugging percentage, fifth in wOBA, fourth in barrel percentage, first in hard hit percentage, and first in average exit velocity. Every hitter in their lineup is capable of doing some damage, and that should be the case in this one. If the Braves get hot at the plate, they will be able to win this game.

The Braves have Charlie Morton on the bump. Morton is 2-0 on the season with a 3.5o ERA. In his last 19 innings, Morton has allowed four earned runs while striking out 15. He is throwing the ball well in his last three starts, and that should continue in this game. The Mets are an average to below average offensive team this season, so Morton should have no problem shutting them down. If he can do that, the Braves will win this game.

Why The Mets Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Mets took two of three from the Braves in their first series, and they did it with their bats. In fact, the Mets put up 29 runs in those three games. 16 of those runs were scored in the last game of the series. Their hitters need to get hot like that again in this game. The Mets are 10-6 when they score at least five runs in a game this season, and it would not be surprising to see them do that in this one.

The Mets have already faced Morton once this season. In that game, New York scored four runs on five hits while Morton did not make it out of the fifth inning. In the win, the Mets were able to draw five walks, as well. New York usually has a problem chasing pitches, and whiffing at those chased pitches. However, the Mets were able to see Morton well, and they need to do just that in this game. If the Mets can force Morton's pitch count up, and knock him out of the game a little bit earlier, they will be able to beat the Braves again.

Final Braves-Mets Prediction & Pick

This is going to be a good game. The Mets played the Braves well in their first series, and I would not be surprised to see it happen again. However, I am going to take the Braves moneyline. Their lineup is too good to pass up, and Morton has been throwing the ball well.
