The Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs start a series for the second time in a week when they play on Tuesday night at Wrigley Field. The Braves took two of three games at home from May 13-15, shutting out the Cubs in both victories. The Braves haven't been in the best form, as they lost four straight games from the rubber match of the Cubs series to the first three games of the Padres series. They won their last time out with a 3-0 victory over the Padres. Likewise, the Cubs lost three of four games in their previous series against the Pirates. It is time to continue our MLB odds series with a Braves-Cubs prediction, pick, and how-to-watch.

Max Fried gets the nod for the Braves in this game, and the team is probably wondering which version will show up. Fried had two consecutive scoreless outings, including a complete game shutout and a no-hitter into the seventh inning. He allowed five earned runs to the Dodgers before another seven-inning scoreless outing against the Mets. He slipped up again against the Padres in his last start, allowing three earned runs. Fried didn't start in the previous series against the Cubs.

The Cubs are 0-4 in games started by Justin Steele this season. He gave up just one earned run in his first start but then found himself on the injured list until May 6th. He came off the IL with a scoreless performance that went into the fifth inning as he slowly ramped up his pitch count. However, he's taken a step back in his last two starts, allowing ten earned runs and five home runs in 9 2/3 innings.

Why The Braves Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Braves starters shut down the Cubs in their series last week, as the Cubs didn't score a run until the third game. The Cubs are batting just .223 against lefties over the past ten games and 1.9 runs/nine. Justin Steele has been terrible over his last two starts, and while the Braves have been bad against lefties as well, Steele could give them plenty of opportunities to run up the score. The Braves have some efficient power hitters on their team, and Steele has given up five home runs over his last nine innings.

Why The Cubs Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Cubs don't have much reason to believe in Justin Steele on the mound, but the Braves have struggled against left-handed pitching. The Braves are batting .259 over their last ten games, averaging just 2.5 runs/nine. Steele's first two starts this season saw him allow just one earned run over 9 1/3 innings. He could return to that form against a poor lefty-facing Braves team.

Final Braves-Cubs Prediction & Pick

Both teams are struggling at the plate against their opposing pitcher's handedness, averaging less than 2.5 runs/nine over the last ten games. Their three games last week all went under the total, and the Braves, the more scary offense between the two, have gone under in eight of their last ten games. We're getting this number at 8.5 due to Justin Steele's poor performances in his past two starts, but he could return to his form from his first two starts in this game.
