Brian Harman turned some heads after successfully winning the British Open at Royal Liverpool Golf Club at Hoylake, England, in July 2023. The victory earned Harman his third PGA Tour win and his first major championship. But while Harman has cemented himself as one of the greats of professional golf, beside him is a partner who has supported him all the way. Kelly Van Slyke was born on April 10, 1985, in Syracuse, N.Y. She attended the State University of New York Upstate Medical University. Here, she graduated in 2010 after earning her Bachelor's Degree in Biology, specializing in radiation therapy.

After completing her university studies, Van Slyke embarked on a career as a radiation therapist at the UC San Diego radiation oncology center. As a radiation therapist, Van Slyke helped plenty of cancer patients to undergo treatment.

Apart from being a radiation therapist, Van Slyke also had a stint as a Pilates instructor. Van Slyke worked at Pilates Loft. Her job was to help people improve their core muscles, posture, flexibility, and balance.

Getting engaged to Brian Harman

Given the privacy of their relationship, not a lot of details are released to the public about Harman and Van Slyke. However, Van Slyke reportedly met the British Open Champion while the former worked as a Pilates instructor.

After dating for a while, in 2014, after Harman surprised his girlfriend by hiding an engagement ring in a new pair of pants. He made her try them on when the couple was going on a turkey hunt.

Based on an interview, Harman described the event “I videotaped the whole thing, her trying on the pants and finding the ring. It was awesome.”

Postponed wedding to Brian Harman

After getting engaged, Harman and Van Slyke were originally scheduled to tie the knot in November 2014. However, the original date fell on a college football game between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Auburn Tigers. The Bulldogs dominated the Tigers that game 34-7. But given Harman's willingness to watch the game, he informed his then-fiancee that the wedding won't push through on that particular date.

According to an interview with Golf Week, the British Open champion confessed “I told her people won’t come to our wedding. If you want all the people that we like to come, don’t do it on a Georgia football weekend.”

Fortunately, the couple did share their vows about a month later.

Marriage with Brian Harman

Since getting married, Van Slyke and Harman have been going strong ever since. In fact, Harman admits that his wife has played a major role in helping him carve out a successful golf career.

In an interview with Savannah Morning News, Harman stated “I have an incredible wife, and she makes it to where I can go out and focus on my golf. That's the way our family is. They travel when they can, and I have them out as much as I can, but sometimes daddy has to go to work, and that's just the way it is.”

Currently, Harman and Van Slyke have three children together. They first welcomed their first daughter, Cooper, in 2016 before having two sons, Walter and Jack.

Given that Harman is usually busy trying to win championships, it isn't surprising that the family often spends time watching him play. In fact, Van Slyke and the children were present during the 2014 John Deere Classic, the 2022 Masters, and many more. Although the family wasn't physically present in the 2023 British Open, where Harmon won it all, the family was reportedly watching from their home's television screens.

After winning the 2023 Open Championship, Harman thanked his family by saying “I gotta thank my wife and family back home. I sure miss them. I can't wait to get back to them tomorrow, but first, I'm going to have me a couple of pints out of this here trophy I believe!”

If Harman isn't playing golf, Van Slyke usually bonds with her husband by doing some fishing. The couple either goes to the lake to do some Largemouth Bass fishing or out in the deep sea, where they catch some giant Flatheads. According to Harman's Instagram account, the couple also does some rainbow trout fishing together. And if Van Slyke and Harman aren't going on a fishing trip during the offseason, they're probably spending time together hunting for turkeys.
