With the entire basketball world engrossed by Tuesday's Game 7 showdown between the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Clippers, many of us may have missed a Giannis Antetokounmpo midgame tweet, which might just prove to be an excellent sign for the Milwaukee Bucks.
While nothing is official, Giannis' most recent tweet seems to point to the fact that he will be back in Milwaukee next season:
The Bucks' season could not have ended in a more disappointing fashion thanks to a 4-1 series upset in the second round at the hands of an underdog Miami Heat side. This cast a huge shadow on Antetokounmpo's future with the team, with the soon-to-be back-to-back MVP entering the final year of his current deal next season. While the superstar came out and said he wouldn't be demanding a trade, the speculation has already run rampant.
According to recent reports, Giannis' most recent sitdown with Bucks ownership seemed to have been very fruitful. At this point, it wouldn't be a surprise if Antetokounmpo puts pen to paper on a record-breaking supermax contract this offseason.
Then again, we've seen crazier things happen in the past. While the newly crowned Defensive Player of the Year could very well sign a new deal with the team, anything can still happen between now and when the Bucks officially put the offer on the table.
If for some reason, Giannis opts to reject that deal and decide to just play out next season before hitting free agency in 2021, this would undoubtedly send the Bucks — as well as the rest of the NBA — scrambling. Needless to say, this is going to be an extremely important offseason for the Bucks, as well as for the rest of the league. Milwaukee is going to do all it can to convince its superstar to stay for the long haul.
