There is plenty of speculation regarding what the Arizona Cardinals plan to do with the first overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. It appears general manager Steve Keim's actions this offseason have helped fuel the rumors regarding their interest in Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray.

It is no secret that Arizona has been tied to Murray since the draft process started. Michael Lombardi and Adnan Verk said on the GM Shuffle that Keim has touched based with teams that have featured smaller quarterbacks in their offense to see how they feel about it.

“I talked to people around the league that Keim's calling and asking specifically team's that have smaller quarterbacks — Seattle, for example. Asking them what it's like to have an undersized quarterback and trying to gauge if this can actually work.”

Keim inquiring about the opinions on undersized quarterbacks gives good reason to believe that he is seriously contemplating drafting Murray. Arizona spent last year's first-round pick on quarterback Josh Rosen. Despite their attempts to downplay the rumors, it seems there may be a certain sense of truth to them.

Although there has long been a negative stigma surrounding smaller quarterbacks, that notion has wavered in recent years thanks to the success of players like Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees. There is no question that both are considered to be elite players at their position. While Keim may have some concerns about Murray's diminutive stature, it does not appear to be enough to rule out the possibility of taking him.
