After the iconic Oscar-winning actor Robert Duvall died on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2026, his Godfather co-stars, Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, paid homage to him.
De Niro, 82, and Pacino, 85, issued statements to The Associated Press, praising their late co-star. Duvall left an impact on both men, with De Niro saying, “God bless Bobby. I hope I can live till I'm 95. May he Rest in Peace.”
Pacino further praised Duvall, calling him a “born actor.” He also conceded that he will “miss him” after his death. Duvall played his adoptive brother in the Godfather films.
“It was an honor to have worked with Robert Duvall,” Pacino said in the statement. “He was a born actor as they say, his connection with it, his understanding and his phenomenal gift will always be remembered. I will miss him.”
Francis Ford Coppola, who directed Duvall, Pacino, and De Niro in the Godfather movies, also issued a statement on Instagram. They worked on several projects, including some outside of the Godfather series like Apocalypse Now.
“What a blow to learn of the loss of Robert Duvall,” Coppola wrote. “Such a great actor and such an essential part of American Zoetrope from its beginning: The Rain People, The Conversation, The Godfather, The Godfather Part II, Apocalypse Now, THX 1138, Assassination Tango.”
Sadly, Duvall is not the only star of The Godfather who has recently passed away. Diane Keaton, who played Kay Adams in Coppola's Godfather trilogy, passed away on Oct. 11, 2025.
When did Robert Duvall die?
Duvall passed away on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2026, at 95 years old. He died at his farm in Middleburg, Virginia, and it was announced via a statement from his wife, Luciana Pedraza.
“Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, cherished friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time. Bob passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love and comfort,” the statement read.
The statement did not reveal a cause of death. Pedraza's statement was emotional, with her calling Duvall “simply everything.” They were married for over 20 years before his death.
