The Los Angeles Rams recently made defensive tackle Aaron Donald the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL, setting the bar for the league's elite pass-rushers. Needless to say, the deal has caught the attention of Los Angeles Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa.

According to NFL salary cap expert Joel Corry, Bosa could be looking to top that deal in the near future:

Joey Bosa has the same agents as Aaron Donald. He's eligible for a new contract after the 2018 regular season ends. If the Chargers wait until 2020 when he's in his option year, more than $25M per year & over $100M in guarantees wouldn't be a surprise.

Such a lucrative deal is not far-fetched for a player like Bosa. Although he is not in the same class as Donald, he has established himself as one of the league's premier pass-rushers. He's also not afraid to hold out for what he feels his worth is.

Bosa was the last player in his draft class to reach a deal with his team. The lingering negotiations were a major headline up until the two sides finally agreed to a four-year contract.

Much like the Rams' star, Bosa has given the Chargers plenty of bang for their buck thus far, registering 111 tackles, 23.0 sacks, and five forced fumbles in his first two seasons. He was also the first player in NFL history to record 19 sacks in his first 20 games. That said, it will be interesting to see if they are willing to cough up the same amount of cash as their neighbors in Los Angeles did.
