Another season, another year of the Los Angeles Chargers failing to meet expectations. The Chargers record fell to 2-4 on the season after they suffered a 31-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7, and that was largely due to Patrick Mahomes carving their defense up for 424 yards and four touchdowns. All signs continue to point to Brandon Staley, who has been calling plays on defense this season for Los Angeles.

It's been tough sledding for Los Angeles' defense once again, as they are allowing 25.8 points per game (which is 25th in the league), and have already given up 1,860 passing yards, which is 31st in the league. Staley has been the guy in charge of the defense to this point as their play caller, but he said he won't be relinquishing his duties just yet after another poor outing against the Chiefs.

“Brandon Staley said he is going to continue calling defensive plays.”

Should Brandon Staley be calling plays for the Chargers defense?

Staley's experience throughout his coaching career has typically come on the defensive side of the ball, as he was the Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator prior to being hired as the Chargers head coach. However, his defenses have typically been awful while with the Chargers, and it may be time for him to make a change in order to spark something in his team.

The Chargers promoted Derrick Ansley to their defensive coordinator this past offseason to help out Staley on defense, and he would be an obvious choice to take over playcalling duties for Staley should he be willing to give them up. But Staley continues to believe he can fix the defense, and he may be running out of time to convince Chargers fans that he is the right guy to lead Los Angeles' talented defense.
