In a cap-space clearing move, the Los Angeles Chargers are releasing offensive tackle Bryan Bulaga.

According to Gilbert Manzano of Orange County Register, the move saves the Chargers $10.75 million in cap space. Bulaga signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Los Angeles franchise in 2020, but his two seasons with the team had been marred with injuries.

In his first year with the Chargers, Bryan Bulaga played just 10 games after he sustained various injuries. Then in 2021, he ended up playing just one game–two quarters to be more specific–after suffering with a core muscle injury that needed surgery. He landed on the injured reserve after that and never returned.

With that said, it is not surprising that the Chargers cut him to create cap space. The team is trying to build a contender around Justin Herbert, and so they need every bit of cap space they can get to get him the talent he needs.

For what it's worth, the team recently traded for Khalil Mack from the Chicago Bears. They followed it up with a deal with cornerback JC Jackson, signing the former New England Patriots star with a five-year deal worth $82.5 million.

It remains to be seen what other free agency signings the franchise will make, but they are surely going all-out to get the team back to contender status.
