The Los Angeles Chargers had a tough decision to make at their quarterback position behind Philip Rivers and Tyrod Taylor. On Saturday, Los Angeles is releasing quarterback Cardale Jones per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Jones has grown accustomed to being released by the Chargers as he was let go by the team before the 2018 season as well. However, Los Angeles placed the Ohio State quarterback on their practice squad for the entire 2018 season.

Earlier this offseason, the Chargers signed Jones to a reserves/future contract. The fourth-year quarterback was competing with rookie Easton Stick for the team's third-string quarterback spot.

Before joining the Chargers in 2017, Jones began his career with the Buffalo Bills in 2016. The Bills used their fourth-round pick in 2016 to select him but was traded to Los Angeles in 2017. Jones only suited up in one game with the Bills in 2016.

Throughout training camp, the big-armed quarterback has shown improvements in his game but he had an uphill battle to making the roster with the team using their fifth-round selection on Stick. Nevertheless, Jones turned some heads in the preseason with his play on the field.

The former Buckeye finished with 357 yards and a touchdown in his four games in the preseason. On the other hand, Stick mightily struggled with four interceptions in his four preseason outings.

Again, the Chargers used their fifth-round pick in this year's draft to select Stick so they have more riding on him than Jones.

Despite being released by Los Angeles, Jones should garner some interest from teams in need of a quarterback.
