The Los Angeles Chargers traded up to select Kenneth Murray with the No. 23 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. With the team confident in his talents, Murray is preparing himself to call plays on defense, despite being a rookie.

“For sure,” Murray said, via Jason B. Hirschhorn of Sports Illustrated. “It's just something that I don't have a problem with. I'm extremely comfortable doing that. It's what I'm preparing for right now which is why I spent so much time in it right now. Just get it down pat so that way if that's given to me, appointed to me this season, I'm able to go out there prepared and everybody can count on me to be able to get everybody lined up.”

Seeing that Los Angeles traded up to take Murray, it's evident that they have high expectations for him at the next level. As the team's first-round pick, Murray figures to be inserted as a starter at inside linebacker.

While he played at Oklahoma, Murray was the leader of the defense, calling plays and making sure everyone was lineup up correctly. Over his three years with the Sooners, Murray amassed 325 tackles, 36.5 tackles for loss, and 9.5 sacks.

Heading into next season, the Chargers are returning Denzel Perryman, Drue Tranquill, and Uchenna Nwosu. In addition, Los Angeles added veteran Nick Vigil to improve the team's linebacking corps.

Still, Murray could assume a prominent role in the Chargers' defense in his first year. Even though it remains to be seen if the team trusts him with the play-calling duties, Murray is confident he can handle the responsibility.
