As the Los Angeles Chargers prepare for the upcoming season, the team’s star quarterback, Justin Herbert, looks to lead the team on the right track. Herbert was one of the best rookies in his class with record-setting numbers across the board in 2020.

Heading into his second season, Herbert says he wants to build on his impressive rookie campaign:

Herbert explained that he wants to “master the offense” for the Chargers this season. He also explained that he wants to improve on preparation alongside footwork and getting the ball out of his hands more quickly. The Chargers finished last season with a 7-9 record, which was third in the AFC West, and they blew a number of leads that cost them a better record.

Still, Herbert was stellar in his rookie season. After Tyrod Taylor went down with a chest injury, Herbert handled the responsibility of being the starting quarterback with aplomb. Herbert had a total of 4,336 passing yards on the season along with 234 rushing yards. He also broke the rookie record for most passing touchdowns as he recorded 31 on the season. Herbert was eventually named Offensive Rookie of the Year.

As the Chargers head into the NFL Draft, they will look to fill their needs around Herbert in order to elevate their chances of becoming a contender. After the draft, Los Angeles will prepare for training camp heading into the new season.
