Even if you weren't closely watching the NFL's opening game between the Detroit Lions and Kansas City Chiefs, you are probably still aware that Kadarius Toney had a brutal night. Three drops, one of which led to a defensive touchdown, tend to make the rounds on social media.

The infinite mockery that followed his viral blunders may have convinced the KC wide receiver to cut ties with the cyber world, or at least X. Toney deactivated his X account (formerly Twitter), per uSTADIUM App.

While blocking out the noise during the season is a sound idea for professional athletes, it is terribly unfortunate that the 24-year-old is making this move after maybe the worst performance of his young career. One can only hope that this freeze came before he really dug into the worst comments.

Toney is one of a few receivers expected to take a step forward this season for the Chiefs. With Travis Kelce sidelined Thursday night with a knee injury, he faltered against Detroit (really, most of the unit did). The former New York Giants' first-round pick missed most of training camp after undergoing surgery for a partial meniscus tear, so naturally there was going to be plenty of rust to shake off.

But the plays he botched were fairly straightforward throws from quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Perhaps, he was still not quite mentally ready after the rehab process. If that was the case, then being skewered online could just make matters worse.

Kadarius Toney has been given a vote of confidence from his QB, his coach and probably the rest of his teammates. He seems to be preemptively trying to combat all of the negativity with this X deactivation.

Given the fickle nature of both sports and social media, the Super Bowl 57 hero will be back in everyone's good graces with a big game in Week 2. Though, he may no longer be interested in participating in such a vicious cycle.
