Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid announced on Friday that safety Eric Berry “probably won't” play on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.

“He’s doubtful to make the trip,” Reid said via The Kansas City Star. “We’ll just take it day-by-day but right now he’s out. He probably won’t go on the trip.”

This is a big blow to a Chiefs secondary that struggled in the preseason and has a big task on Sunday trying to slow down Phillip Rivers.

Berry missed all but the first game of last season after tearing his Achilles. He is currently dealing with a sore ankle that has held him out of practice since August 11th. Berry was the only player on the Chiefs' injury report, so otherwise, the team should be very healthy for the first week.

The Chargers will also be short-handed for Sunday's showdown with Joey Bosa sporting a walking boot. The team officially ruled him out for the matchup.

Bosa originally injured his foot during training camp and missed all of the preseason. That injury healed, but Bosa suffered a different injury to the same foot on Wednesday.

Chargers coach Anthony Lynn previously said there was a chance that Bosa might not be with the team on Sunday.

“It’s possible that he might not be with us,” Chargers Coach Anthony Lynn told reporters on Thursday. Foot injuries, they take on all the body weight. That can be tricky.”

Berry and Bosa are both huge losses for their respective teams, and both guys being out will have a major impact on the game.
