Activision confirmed last May that Sledgehammer Games will be developing the next Call of Duty (COD) title. There is no official title yet for the next installment of the game. However, there have been rumors that Treyarch is pitching in for the title, and that it will be called Call of Duty: Vanguard. The game is said to be integrated with the franchise’s colossal battle royale Warzone. Apparently, Vanguard is set to enhance the Warzone experience.

Earlier this year, Warzone’s beloved map Verdansk took a step back into the year 1984 when Season 3 launched. After Verdansk got nuked, fans hoped to see the dawn of a new era in the form of a brand new map. However, Activision decided to revamp the map instead by turning back time. Although Verdansk ‘84 is supposed to be “new” and “fresh”, it’s only considered a rework. We can’t blame the players for wanting an entirely new COD map to wreak havoc in.

Call of Duty: Vanguard is rumored to take place in a fictional timeline where World War II never ended in 1945. What we know so far is that Vanguard will definitely take place in the World War II setting. Because Activision mentioned the integration between Vanguard and Warzone, it is most likely that  Warzone’s “Vanguard Map” will be set to that time. There have also been reports that the map's vehicles will be pacific-themed. The map is also said to be larger compared to Verdansk, making this map Warzone’s biggest one yet.

Even though Activision is set to host a presentation at E3 2021, they mentioned that COD will be skipping the event. Just like with what they did with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, an in-game event in Warzone will most likely reveal Vanguard instead.
