The Kansas City Chiefs were able to squeak out a 26-23 win against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 9. After watching the game, it is evident that Damien Williams is going to be a huge factor in how the Chiefs finish the season.

During Sunday's game, Williams was able to scamper for a 91-yard touchdown run to give Kansas City a one-point lead. Following his long touchdown run, Harrison Butker was able to make three field goals to propel the Chiefs over the Vikings.

Since the beginning of the season, Kansas City has been longing for one of their running backs to step up to be the go-to option in the backfield. Before Week 9, the Chiefs used a mixture of LeSean McCoy, Darrel Williams, and Damien Williams.

In the six games that Damien had played in before Sunday, he had only totaled 100 rushing yards on 48 attempts and two touchdowns on the ground. Along with his rushing numbers, Williams also had 15 receptions for 115 yards and another score.

Then, in Week 9, Williams exploded for 125 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown. Of course, 91 yards and a touchdown came one singular play. That means that the sixth-year running back had just 11 attempts for 34 yards in the rest of the game.

Those numbers aren't great by any means, but it was a positive sign to see a running back for the Chiefs finally produce in the offense. For the Chiefs, they are going to need Williams to continue his momentum in the coming weeks.

Currently, Kansas City holds a 6-3 record and sit atop the AFC West ahead of the Oakland Raiders. On Sunday, the Chiefs were forced to start Matt Moore in place of Patrick Mahomes for the second consecutive week.

Luckily for them, Moore played formidably under center and was able to help them secure a win over a 6-2 Vikings team. The expectation is that Mahomes is able to return to the offense in Week 10 against the Tennessee Titans.

Everyone knows how dangerous the Chiefs' offense can be when Mahomes is dissecting defenses through the air. But for Kansas City to take the next step, they need to have a reliable rushing attack.

Even with a 6-3 record, Kansas City still has a chance to secure a top-two seed in the postseason. Therefore, the Chiefs are essentially playing to win the division and secure a first-round bye in the playoffs. Additionally, a top-two seed would give the Chiefs home-field advantage in the AFC Divisional Round.

However, one of the only ways that Kansas City can achieve that is having Williams continue his level of play. The dynamic running back will get a chance to repeat his performance on Sunday in Week 10 against the Titans.
