Empire has unveiled its Deadpool 3 cover. It features a high-definition look at Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and Dogpool.

The cover shows off Ryan Reynolds in the title role of the MCU film. He is holding Dogpool in the image, whose tongue is sticking out towards the camera. Jackman is also seen with his claws out.

This gives one of the best looks at the film to date ahead of its release. So much about the film has been kept under wraps. Luckily, a recent trailer gave some plot details away. Still, this image is by-far the best look at Deadpool and Wolverine that we have gotten ahead of the film's release.

Shawn Levy will direct the forthcoming MCU film. He co-wrote the script with Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells. Levy previously worked with Hugh Jackman on Real Steel and had directed Reynolds in Free Guy and The Adam Project prior to Deadpool 3.

Deadpool 3 will be the lone MCU feature film released in 2024. This comes after a disappointing 2023 for Marvel Studios and Disney alike. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels were disappointments, grossing $476 million and $206 million, respectively.

Given the Deadpool series' track record, Marvel Studios and Disney are counting on the third film to make money. Perhaps it can get them back on track before the MCU releases four films in 2025 (Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, The Fantastic Four, and Blade).

What is Deadpool 3 about?

Deadpool 3 is the third film in the series but first within the MCU. The first two films were distributed by 20th Century Fox when they held the rights to Marvel's X-Men characters. Each of the first two films were big hits, grossing $782 and $785 million, respectively.

In the film, Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) is recruited by the TVA (Time Variance Authority) on a mission that will affect the MCU timeline. Along the way, he enlists the help of Wolverine (Jackman).

Fans of the X-Men films may remember that Hugh Jackman's tenure as Wolverine seemingly ended with James Mangold's Logan. However, the latest trailer indicates that this is an alternate reality's version of the character.

Who's in the film?

While Jackman is perhaps the biggest return, several other stars will make their returns in the film. The other most notable return is Jennifer Garner, who played Elektra in her 2005 solo film and the 2003 Ben Affleck-led Daredevil.

Other returning actors from the past two Deadpool films include Rob Delaney, Morena Baccarin, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Stefan Kapičić, and Brianna Hildebrand.

Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) makes his MCU debut in the film as Paradox, a TVA agent. Emma Corrin (The Crown) will also star in the film as its antagonist, Cassandra Nova. In the comics, Nova is the twin sister of Charles Xavier.
