While it had been previously rumored Disney+ could see as many as five Star Wars series in 2024, it appears that will not be the case thanks to an update directly from the House of Mouse about the platform's planned releases for the year.

The update comes thanks to a new press release from the Disney+ UK website outlining the planned releases on the streaming service during 2024 from Disney's various production houses. It confirmed Lucasfilm will only have two Star Wars series premiering on the platform, as opposed to the previously rumored five which would have included season two of Andor, season two of Tales of the Jedi, and season three of The Bad Batch.

Disney+ rumored to launch 5 Star Wars shows in 2024

First is Star Wars: The Acolyte, which will be the first on-screen project set during the High Republic era of the Star Wars universe. The series will be set roughly 100 years before Star Wars Episode 1: A Phantom Menace and follow a Jedi master and their former padawan as they investigate emerging dark side powers in the universe and uncover a larger threat more sinister than they could have imagined.

Amandla Stenberg is set to star in the series as the former padawan, though the character has not been named. Lee Jung-jae, Dafne Keen, Manny Jacinto, and Carrie-Anne Moss are also part of the series' principle cast, with many of them playing Jedi as well.

The other series set to release in 2024 is Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, which will serve as the latest entry in Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau's interconnected Mandoverse. It has been described as a coming-of-age story set within the Star Wars universe centered on four kids get lost and must navigate the galaxy to find their way home.

Jude Law will serve as the cast's most recognizable face as a force-user the kids come into contact with during their journey. Ryan Kiera Armstrong is the most well-known of the kids, previously appearing in 2021's American Horror Story: Double-Feature, while the rest of the titular crew are relative unknowns.

It is worth noting that one of the other three series could end up being added to the release schedule at a later date.
